Job Description:


The Database Administrator is responsible for supporting applications and databases deployed at the client.  You will be  responsible for maintaining production support for applications as well as ensuring the databases are functioning properly, taking backups of the repositories, performing maintenance on the systems (building and maintaining indices to ensure applications perform effectively and data can quickly be accessed), and managing the growth, patching, and end-of-life of the applications and databases to ensure the applications are running on efficient, manageable, and supported platforms at the client. Most applications are reliant on a properly configured and running database in order to function properly.  You will work closely with other members of the database administration team, members of the technical infrastructure team (server, storage, network, security teams, etc.), application development teams, enterprise architecture, vendors, as well as with IT business liaisons to ensure smooth operations of applications and databases within the environment.


Position Overview:

Day to day SQL Server administration and support including:
  • Support and administer various versions of SQL Server (SQL 2005 to SQL 2016)
  • Support of MySQL 5.x, Sybase, and other smaller installed databases
  • Ensure that configuration of databases includes appropriate security setup for internal and/or external databases
  • Database software patching and day-to-day management
  • Perform off hours on call support on a rotating basis
  • Support and refresh test environments to support business support needs
  • Manage SQL installations configured on Microsoft Clustering platform
  • Configure new backups of databases using native SQL backups, lightspeed and DD boost
  • Assist with data backup and recovery
  • Assist with documenting and maintaining the standard operating procedures for DR


Day to day application administration and support including:
  • Perform Break/fix for  database related issues
  • Monitor, manage, and trend  database performance
  • Perform day-to-day administration of custom and off-the-shelf applications deployed in the environment
  • Manage and maintain licenses for SQL DBs
  • Plan and manage change controls for the environments



  • Experience managing and supporting large MS SQL Data warehouse
  • Experience with SQL Server performance tuning and troubleshooting
  • Experience working with Microsoft Clustering for High Availability
  • Experience with database replication technologies
  • Must possess superior analytical, trouble-shooting, communication and planning  skills
  • Must be innovative in developing server solutions
  • Must have a thorough understanding of ITIL incident, problem, change and CMDB concepts
  • Systems administration experience in a large heterogeneous Windows/UNIX/Linux production environment is required
  • Working with enterprise class virtualization technologies

  • B.S. or B.A. degree is preferred
  • Minimum of  3 years’ experience working with Microsoft SQL Server
  • ITIL V.3 certification preferred
